Impact of sowing dates and weather conditions on the development of maize plants in the second half of vegetation
Abstract
In two-year research conducted (2024–2025) on sodpodzolic sandy loam soil in the central part of Belarus, the impact of sowing dates and relevant temperature conditions on plant development from the flowering stage to harvesting was studied. It is shown that early sowing promotes a greater accumulation of dry matter in grain, especially in insufficiently warm years. A strong, direct correlation exists between the sum of effective temperatures from blooming stage to harvesting and the accumulation of dry matter in the grain of maize hybrids. Based on this, regression equations are calculated that reflect the relationship between the dry matter accumulation in maize grain and the sum of effective temperatures after flowering stage, allowing for the prediction of maize grain moisture at harvesting.
